Biography
Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal is the founder and chairman of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), the largest grassroots foreign policy organization in the Indo-Pacific. He also leads the Middle Power Studies Network, an initiative focused on the role of emerging global actors. A career diplomat, he is recognized for elevating Indonesia’s international engagement and policy leadership.
Djalal served as Indonesia’s ambassador to the U.S. (2010–2013), vice minister for foreign affairs (2014) and presidential spokesperson and foreign policy advisor (2004–2010). He joined the Foreign Ministry in 1987, with postings in London, Dili and Washington, D.C., and later became director of North American affairs. After leaving government in 2014, he founded FPCI to expand public participation in foreign policy.
He also serves as vice president of the Paris Peace Forum, an Asia Fellow at the Milken Institute, chairman of the World Resources Institute Indonesia, chairman of the Indonesian Lecturer Association and chairman of the Indonesian Diaspora Network – Global. He holds degrees from Carleton University, Simon Fraser University and the London School of Economics.
