Residency Summary

Pablo de la Flor lead a panel discussion with professors Richard Feinberg, Peter Smith, David Shirk and David Mares discussing prospects for improving hemispheric relations. He also served as a guest lecturer in classes and met with a variety of student groups, as well as leaders at the UC San Diego Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies, the Institute of the Americas and San Diego community.

Biography

Pablo de la Flor is currently the vice president of corporate affairs for the Antamina Mining Company, overseeing the Social Investment Program ($64 million) that supports sustainable development in Ancash, the largest private CSR in Peru and one of the most significant on the continent. He is a current member of the Organizing Committee for Education CADE 2013. As former Peruvian vice minister of international trade, he helped negotiate the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the U.S., Thailand (the first between Peru and an East Asian country) and Singapore. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in political economy and quantitative methods and received his MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He also holds an M.A. in international trade and development from Yale University. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Lima Chamber of Commerce and the Agricultural Exporters Association for distinguished services, the JFK School Excellence Award and the Ford Foundation Award. He was selected to the Council of Foreign Relations (NY) conference for new leaders of Latin America and elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank´s Vice-Ministerial Dialogue Forum on Foreign Trade.
