Biography
James Ding is a managing director at GSR Ventures, a venture capital fund that invests primarily in early and growth-stage technology companies with substantial operations in China. He oversees investments in Internet, wireless and new media.
Prior to GSR, Mr. Ding cofounded AsiaInfo-Linkage, one of the earliest and most successful technology companies in China. During his tenure as CEO, he guided AsiaInfo to be the first initial public offering on NASDAQ by a Chinese technology company. He remains co-chair. Mr. Ding also is an independent board member of Baidu, Inc. among other companies.
Mr. Ding graduated from the executive program at UC Berkeley’s Haas Business School and holds a master’s degree in information science from UCLA and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Peking University.
During his residency, he will explore the topics of United States-China relations and technology cooperation, U.S. innovation policy, and the direction of American politics.
