Biography
Sachio Semmoto is the founder of eAccess Ltd/eMobile Ltd (now Y!mobile) and served as its chair and CEO. His career started at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) where he helped develop the first optical fiber system in Japan and led the development of the network information system (INS), the world's first digital service that embodied the integrated services digital network (ISDN) concept. After NTT he cofounded DDI Corporation (now KDDI Corporation), the first purely private telephone company.
Dr. Semmoto served on the board of several high-technology companies outside Japan, including NetApp, Inc. in the Silicon Valley and SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited in Hong Kong. He was a trustee of The Tokyo Foundation and cofounded the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs, JASVE.
Dr. Semmoto received his master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kyoto University. Additionally, he has published numerous papers and books on both telecommunication technologies and high-technology management.
During his residency, he will explore the topics of entrepreneurship in the IT sector along with telecommunications technology and security.
