Residency Summary
Miguel Szekely Pardo spoke on social mobility in Mexico at a public lecture. He also offered a few words on his experiences on the graduate fellowship he held 20 years ago at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies during their 30th anniversary celebration. He had the opportunity to meet with leaders from the El Colegio de la Frontera Norte. During his stay he guest lectured in classes and meet with students, and leaders and members from the San Diego-Mexican community. He was in residence as a joint fellow with the Center for U.S.-Mexico Studies.
Biography
Miguel Szekely Pardo is the former undersecretary for planning and evaluation at the Ministry of Social Development in Mexico. He also served as chief of the unit for regional development in the Executive Office for Strategic Planning and Regional Development. He was also a professor and researcher at the Economic Studies Centre at El Colegio de Mexico and the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico. He has published widely on poverty, inequality, household income and savings distribution in Mexico. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Oxford University.
