Nobuo Tanaka participated in a panel event with Hisashi Yoshikawa, project researcher at University of Tokyo, and David Victor, professor at IR/PS, titled "Asia's New Energy Security Challenges." He attended a public event, featuring U.S. Ambassador to Japan John V. Roos, where he was able to hear presentations on the future of U.S.-Japan relations. Additionally, Nobuo Tanaka delivered a lunch presentation for IR/PS students, where he spoke on "Shale Gas and Oil Revolution in the U.S. and Implications for other Pacific Countries."
Biography
An expert on energy policy in Japan, Nobuo Tanaka was the former executive director of the International Energy Agency in Paris. In 1973 he began his career with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, with his highest position as director general of the Trade Policy Bureau. He also served as the director for Science, Technology and Industry at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. In 1998, he was assigned as minister for energy, trade and industry at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. He is now global associate for Energy Security and Sustainability at the Institute for Energy Economics in Japan.
