Biography

Harvey V. Fineberg currently serves as president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, leveraging his extensive expertise in health policy and medical decision-making. Previously, he held roles as president of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and provost of Harvard University, alongside his tenure as dean of the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. His academic pursuits have centered on global health, the evaluation of medical technology, vaccine development and safety, and responses to pandemics.

Fineberg’s leadership extends to chairing notable boards, such as the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. He co-founded the Society for Medical Decision Making and contributes to the New England Journal of Medicine’s editorial board. His influential publications include works on AIDS prevention, vaccine safety and global health.

Fineberg has been recognized with prestigious awards like the Frank A. Calderone Prize in Public Health and the Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research, and he continues to shape public health discourse and policy worldwide.
