Biography

Juan Carlos Jobet served as Chile’s minister of energy and mining (2020-2022) and is currently the dean of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Santiago, Chile. He is acclaimed for leading the country’s successful energy transition. He spearheaded a comprehensive carbon neutrality plan, the phase-out of coal power plants, the accelerated adoption of solar and wind energy, and the establishment of crucial transmission infrastructure.

During his tenure, he navigated significant crises in the wake of social unrest in Oct. 2019 and during the pandemic; he ensured uninterrupted operations in both the energy and mining sectors, which collectively drove over 50% of Chile’s investments and contributed significantly to economic recovery.

Beyond national leadership, Jobet has played important roles in international organizations, serving as chair of the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation (both commissions of the European Union) in 2021 and co-chair of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition.

Jobet holds an M.B.A. and an M.P.A. from Harvard University, complementing his bachelor’s degree in business and economics from the Catholic University of Chile.
